Dow Jones, S&P give up profits and close in the red. The NASDAQ closed mostly higher
The US stock market lost steam to closing, the Dow industrial average and the S&P 500 closed in the red and gave up previous gains. The NASDAQ index pulled a small profit on the day.
The final numbers are shown:
- The Dow industry average of -97.11 points or -0.28% at 34848.36
- S&P index -8.11 points or -0.18% at 4387.15
- The NASDAQ index rose 8.369 points or 0.06% at 14,681.07
- The Russell 2000 index fell -10.75 points or -0.48% at 2215.50
As the day went on, lower returns due to expectations of slower growth due to the Covid Delta option began to weigh on key indices. The Dow industry average rose as high as 256.64 points. The S&P index rose as much as 25.64 points and the NASDAQ index as much as 97.7 points before returning to the negative side and closing the lowest level of the day.
